Why this site exists
Online sellers lose money on fees they did not see coming. A marketplace charges a percentage on the item, a flat amount on top, and sometimes a tax on its own fee. Payment processors add their own rates. It is easy to price an item and find out later that you kept far less than you expected.
SellSmartDesk gives each platform its own calculator. You enter a price and your costs, and it shows the fees and what you keep. You can also work backwards from the profit you want to the price you need to charge. Every fee on every page links to the platform’s own page and shows the date we last checked it.
Who runs it
SellSmartDesk is run by Foroz Farhat.
Foroz is a freelance full-stack developer with a background in SEO and e-commerce, and has worked on websites for over ten years. Foroz also runs ImageURLGenerator, StyrofoamWorld and NextGenAuto, and built SellSmartDesk after seeing how often sellers misjudge what a platform’s fees leave them.
What we cover
Today the site covers US fees forDepop, Mercari,Poshmark, Whatnot,TikTok Shop, Stripe,Square, PayPal andShopify. More platforms are added over time. Each calculator page also explains the platform’s fee quirks in plain language, such as which amounts a fee is charged on, and includes worked examples and a change log. You can compare them all on the home page.
How we keep numbers accurate
We read fees from the platform’s official pages, store the source link and the date we checked, and show both on the page. When a platform does not explain something clearly, we say so on the page instead of guessing. You can read the full process on our methodology page and our editorial policy.
Independence
SellSmartDesk is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any platform it covers. Platform names are used only to describe the fees we calculate. The site is supported by advertising, and ads do not change what we write about a platform.
