How to check you entered the right numbers

Check the result against a real sale. After a sale, open My Depop, tap My Account, tap Depop Balance, then scroll to Latest Transactions (these steps come from Depop’s own fees page). Compare the fee shown there with the “Payment processing fee” line in the calculator. If they match, your inputs are right.

Depop fees for US sellers

Depop’s fee setup for US sellers is short, but one detail catches people out: the payment processing fee is not calculated on the item price alone.

What Depop actually takes from a sale

If you sell in the US, Depop does not take a cut of the sale itself. The only fee on a normal Buy-button sale is the payment processing fee, which Depop handles through Stripe: 3.3% plus a flat $0.45. Because the fee is charged on the item price, the shipping, and any applicable taxes, a buyer who pays for shipping or tax pushes your fee up a little.

The flat $0.45 matters most on cheap items. On a $10 sale with no shipping or tax, the fee is $0.78, which is 7.8% of the price. On a $100 sale it is $3.75, or 3.8%. So low-priced items lose a bigger share to fees, and it is worth checking your numbers before listing a $5 or $8 piece with free shipping.

Boosting is the only other fee, and it is optional. Depop’s help page lists a 12% boosting fee for US and UK sellers on new listings from 23 March 2026. It only applies if the item sells while boosted. It is charged on the item price (excluding taxes) and also on shipping if you did not use a Depop Shipping label. That is a much bigger bite than the processing fee, so treat boosting as a marketing cost and price for it.

Fees come out before the money reaches you. For Depop Payments sales, Depop deducts everything before paying your bank account, and if a sale is refunded the fees are reversed. Your own costs, such as what you paid for the item and what you pay a carrier, are not part of Depop’s fees. That is why the calculator asks for them separately: your real profit is what is left after Depop’s fees, shipping, and the cost of the item.

One more thing to keep in mind: this page covers sellers based in the US selling in US dollars. Sellers elsewhere can face different rules, including a 10% selling fee outside the UK, US and Australia, so do not use these numbers for other regions.

Three worked examples

1. A $40 jacket with free shipping

You list at $40.00 and offer free shipping, so you pay $5.00 to ship it. No tax. The fee is 3.3% of $40.00 plus $0.45, which is $1.77. After the fee and shipping you keep $33.23, before subtracting what you paid for the jacket.

2. A $25 top where the buyer pays shipping and tax

Item $25.00, shipping charged to the buyer $6.00, tax $2.00. The fee base is $33.00, so the fee is $1.54. Shipping costs you $6.00, which the buyer’s shipping payment covers. You keep $23.46, before item cost. Notice the tax did not reach you, but it still added to the fee.

3. An $80 bag with a boosted listing

Item $80.00, buyer pays $8.00 shipping with a Depop label. Processing fee on $88.00 is $3.35. The boosting fee is 12% of the item price, or $9.60, because shipping used a Depop label. Shipping costs you $8.00. You keep $67.05, before item cost. The boost cost nearly three times the processing fee.

Questions sellers ask

Does Depop charge a selling fee in the US?

No. Depop’s help page says no selling fees are charged to sellers based in the UK, US or Australia. You still pay the payment processing fee on every sale made with the Buy button.

Is the 3.3% + $0.45 charged on shipping too?

Yes. According to Depop, the processing fee is charged on the item price plus shipping plus any applicable taxes. That is why free shipping does not make the fee smaller: you still pay it on the item, and the shipping cost comes out of your own pocket.

What is the boosting fee, and do I have to pay it?

Boosting is optional. If you boost a listing and it sells, Depop lists a 12% boosting fee for US and UK sellers on new listings from 23 March 2026. It applies to the item price excluding taxes, plus shipping if you did not use a Depop Shipping label. If you never boost, you never pay it.

Do I get fees back if a sale is refunded?

Depop says all fees, including the processing fee and any boosting fee, are reversed when a sale is refunded. For sales made with Depop Payments this happens automatically.

When are the fees taken out?

For Depop Payments sales, all fees are deducted before the proceeds are paid out to your bank account, so the amount you see in your balance is already after fees.

Why does the calculator ask for sales tax?

Because the processing fee is charged on item price, shipping and applicable taxes. If tax is added to a sale, the fee goes up slightly. The calculator treats tax as a pass-through: it raises the fee but is not counted as your income.
